The next major undertaking for Donlin Gold before development advances on the Middle Kuskokwim mining project is a bankable feasibility study. To lead that process, the developer hired Frank Arcese as Project Director.

Arcese brings more than forty years of experience leading large, complex mining and infrastructure projects across the United States and internationally, including Australia, Canada, Mongolia, Argentina, South Africa, and Chile. He has held senior leadership roles with Cominco/TECK, Rio Tinto, and various engineering, procurement, and construction management contractors. Most recently, Arcese was North American capital projects business leader for engineering consulting firm WSP.

“I look forward to working in Alaska and building on three decades of project progress as we move into the next stage: completing final engineering and feasibility studies that will position us to make a construction decision in the near future,” says Arcese.

Donlin Gold, owned by Novagold Resources and Paulson Advisers, spent 2025 completing a drill program to prepare for the feasibility study update.

“We are pleased to welcome Frank to the Donlin Gold team as we advance the project toward development,” says Donlin Gold chairman Marcelo Kim. “His leadership in delivering complex, multi-billion-dollar mining projects will be critical as Donlin Gold enters this important execution phase.”

Arcese adds, “Alaska is a unique and remarkable place, and I consider it a privilege to contribute to advancing a project of such significance for the state and region. I am honored to serve in this role and committed to delivering the technical rigor and collaboration required at this critical phase.”
