Senior Planner Joins R&M Consultants

Civil engineering, surveying, and environmental firm R&M Consultants welcomes Collin Hodges as a Senior Planner in the Planning Department. Hodges returns to Alaska after spending the past six years on the East Coast, where he worked on transportation and community planning projects.
Prior to leaving Alaska in 2020, Hodges worked for the Municipality of Anchorage as a Senior Planner and Transit Planner, contributing to land use and zoning initiatives, the Anchorage 2040 Land Use Plan, and the redesign of Anchorage’s public transit system. His more recent experience includes leading multimodal transportation projects and working with municipalities, metropolitan planning organizations, and state agencies across the country.

Hodges’ role at the firm supports transportation, land use, and community planning projects throughout Alaska, bringing expertise in active transportation, transit, Complete Streets, Vision Zero, zoning, and comprehensive planning.
“I was drawn to R&M by the opportunity to work with great people on interesting projects at an employee-owned firm,” Hodges says. “I look forward to contributing to projects that improve our communities, here in Anchorage and throughout the state.”
Hodges earned a bachelor’s degree in history from New York University and has a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the State University of New York at Albany. He is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners and a member of the American Planning Association. Hodges brings strong technical skills in data analysis and data visualization, as well as experience managing complex projects.
Outside of work, Hodges enjoys running, reading, hiking, backpacking, camping, Nordic skiing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends.
What happens when a city with fewer than 300 residents becomes a major freight and tourism hub, despite being accessible only by boat, plane, or a one-lane highway/railroad tunnel managed on a strict schedule?
If you’re in the City of Whittier, you get busy. The city has two separate transportation planning efforts underway, including a safety action plan under the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All initiative, which focuses on improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and emergency responders. The second is Whittier Moves, the city’s transportation master plan, which serves as the long-term roadmap for growth.
