GCI Donates $10,000 to Unalaska Women’s Shelter and Food Bank

Jun 3, 2021 | Nonprofits, Telecom & Tech

GCI has donated $10,000 to the Unalaska Women’s Shelter and Food Bank. The facility serves as a safe space for women and children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes.

In addition to offering safe shelter, the organization provides crisis intervention, safety planning, legal advocacy, referrals, emergency food assistance, and education and outreach. This contribution follows GCI’s $5,000 donation to the organization in 2020.

“Our employees live and work in the communities we serve; we’re your neighbors. That’s why the health and safety of Alaska communities is so important to GCI,” says GCI Senior Manager of Community Engagement Jenifer Nelson. “By supporting organizations like the Unalaska Women’s Shelter and Food Bank, our hope is more survivors can be housed safely and supported through their healing journey.”

GCI is one of Alaska’s leaders in corporate philanthropy, donating approximately $2 million each year in cash, products, and connectivity to organizations across the state. GCI is committed to giving back to the communities it serves and provides employees with 16 hours of paid leave to volunteer with local organizations. In 2020, more than 320 GCI employees volunteered over 2,900 hours with local nonprofit organizations across the state.
