Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care, has awarded Providence Alaska Medical Center the Environmental Excellence Award for exemplary environmental stewardship.
From gas stations to energy companies to cruise lines to military bases to air cargo companies and more, businesses hire HSE (health, safety, and environment) specialists to keep their facilities clean.
Alaska’s thriving maritime industry is supported by a variety of environmental companies and other organizations that help clear industrial debris from the state’s waterways and shoreline, keeping Alaska’s ecosystem as pristine as possible while combating a never-ending problem.
“The little-known fact for most people is that recycling is possible in Alaska through the generosity of private companies,” explains Anita Nelson, executive director of the nonprofit Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling.
The Pacific Rim Response Center, offering the collaborative services of three long-standing Alaska businesses, is based in Kodiak to provide maritime resources and spill response to the underserved region of Western Alaska.
The announcement included the release of Alaska’s 2020 LIFT Sustainability Report detailing the company’s broader climate change strategy, including waste and water initiatives.
