ANCHORAGE—Christopher J. Slottee, the former vice president and general counsel of Old Harbor Native Corporation, an Alaska Native Village Corporation, has joined Holland & Knight’s West Coast Litigation Group as a senior counsel in the firm’s Anchorage, Alaska, office. Mr. Slottee is highly experienced in matters related to Alaska Native Corporations, Alaska Native Corporation Settlement Trusts, tribal governments and Indian Country.

Mr. Slottee handles complex litigation on behalf of businesses and municipal governments, both as plaintiffs and defendants, in areas involving commercial transactions, construction disputes, employment law, medical and legal malpractice, personal injury, insurance bad faith, and Alaska Native Corporation and tribal matters. He is well-versed in advising Alaska Native corporations and their subsidiaries on corporate governance, legal and risk management issues, business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate matters, as well as providing guidance on the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Section 8(a) Business Development Program and the establishment and management of Alaska Native Corporation Settlement Trusts.

“Chris will be a tremendous asset to our Anchorage office, which represents a number of Alaska Native corporations and tribes,” said Matt Donohue, the leader of Holland & Knight’s West Coast Litigation Group. “His experience arguing cases before the Alaska Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is particularly impressive and will be of great value to our clients.”

During his three years as vice president and general counsel of Old Harbor Native Corporation, Mr. Slottee provided legal and strategic advice regarding government contracting, tourism, oil field services, telecommunications, investments, risk management, and acquisitions and divestitures. Prior to Old Harbor Native Corporation, he was with Atkinson Conway & Gagnon, Inc., an Anchorage law firm, for 14 years, handling complex litigation and commercial transactions for clients, including Alaska Native corporations, municipal governments, hospitals and commercial entities.

Mr. Slottee received a J.D. degree from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College and a B.S. degree from the University of Utah. He is admitted to the bar in Alaska and Oregon.
