Mat-Su Senior Services Selects New CEO

Brandi Burchett has been selected as the new CEO of Mat-Su Senior Services, the largest nonprofit senior campus in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, serving the widest geographical area of any senior service provider. Mat-Su Senior Services’ primary mission is to promote honor, dignity, security, and independence for older Alaskans and to assist them in maintaining meaningful lives.

Burchett earned a master’s degree in counseling from Webster University and has more than twelve years of counseling experience and nine years of supervision experience. This year, Burchett is completing an MBA degree with a concentration in healthcare administration from the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina. Burchett holds the credentials of Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, National Certified Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, Certified Clinical Supervisor, Approved Counseling Supervisor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and Master Addiction Counselor.

Burchett moved from North Carolina to Wasilla in 2019, leaving the role of vice president of behavioral health services at a federally qualified health center. 

Burchett considers herself a lifelong learner, and she enjoys learning, singing, acting, teaching, and continuous development in providing servant leadership. In her short residency in Alaska, she has explored Denali, Juneau, Seward, Kenai, Ketchikan, and Fairbanks and is excited to see more.

In mid-May it was 19°F and windy at the Aurora Hotel in Deadhorse. As I stood in the parking lot surveying the surroundings, I chatted with a gentleman from Texas who works for Nabors Alaska Drilling and was in town as part of a crew tasked with getting a previously inactive drill rig up and running. He said that, according to his supervisor, spring is the windy season on the North Slope. The gusts were bracing, numbing the fingers holding my camera, but most of my attention was focused on what I could capture through the lens: work trucks, shipping containers, buildings obscured by snow whipped up by the wind.
