SeaLife CEO Makes a Splash at Alaska Public Media

The former president and CEO of the Alaska SeaLife Center, Tara Riemer, is joining Alaska Public Media (AKPM) as Senior Director of Finance. In this newly established position, Riemer serves as the financial liaison with the board of directors and reports to the COO and Vice President of Administration on budget management, grants, cost-benefit analysis, and financial forecasting.

“We are delighted that Tara will be joining us as the Senior Director of Finance for AKPM,” says COO Dorothy McGrath. “Tara is a proven strategic and operational leader with a track record of implementing process improvement and building highly successful relationships with key stakeholders, such as auditors and boards. We look forward to working with Tara to advance our strategic roadmap and achieve our long-term objectives.”

Riemer holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical and electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Prior to moving to Alaska in 2002, she worked as a strategic management consultant for McKinsey and Company in Boston and Auckland, New Zealand.

Riemer joined the Alaska SeaLife Center in 2003 and worked as research administrator, grants and contracts manager, director of research and grant operations, and COO before she was named president and CEO in July 2012.

“I am thrilled to join an Alaska nonprofit that I have supported as a member for over twenty years,” Riemer says. “The passionate team at Alaska Public Media serves the entire state, providing vital communications that have kept me informed for years.”

Riemer lives in Seward, loves hiking local trails, and has been a member of Alaska Public Media since 2003.
