Alaska Center for the Performing Arts is partnering with events producer Nederlander to present a new Broadway subscription series beginning with four shows in the 2023/2024 season.

Overture, Curtain, Lights

The new partnership, called Broadway Alaska, developed a model to bring major national touring versions of Broadway shows to Anchorage.

“Presenting a first-class annual Broadway Alaska season is a key piece to the success of the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts and Downtown Anchorage,” says Codie Costello, president and chief operating officer of the nonprofit that manages the city-owned facility, known as the PAC. “By partnering with industry leader Nederlander, we are able to guarantee a spectacular lineup for our Broadway Alaska seasons and build a lasting program that will grow audiences for years to come. We are proud to be the newest member of the Nederlander family!”

Nederlander began as a family company in Detroit, and over the last century has grown into one of the nation’s largest and most experienced entertainment operators, presenting a Broadway series in thirty-five North American markets.

“From New York to London and to many other cities within the US, we at Nederlander are honored to bring the best live entertainment to so many astounding venues,” says Nick Scandalios, executive vice president of the Nederlander Organization. “We are especially glad to now welcome the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts into the Nederlander family and to bring the very best of Broadway to Alaska.”

The Nederlander Organization operates a chain of nine theaters on Broadway, more than a dozen other touring venues across the United States, and three theaters in London’s West End. In addition to producing numerous concert events, a few of Nederlander’s recent Broadway producing credits include Mr. Saturday Night, My Fair Lady, The Band’s Visit, On Your Feet!, Pretty Women, Hello Dolly!, and more.

Alaska Airlines is the official airline sponsor for the Broadway Alaska program, responsible for transporting the touring companies.

“Alaska Airlines is pleased to sponsor Broadway Alaska and help bring productions to the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts,” says Marilyn Romano, regional vice president for Alaska Airlines. “Supporting the arts in Alaska introduces many to the joy of a live theatrical event.”

GCI is the official technology partner for the program. “We’re thrilled to support Broadway Alaska, a program that will strengthen our economy through arts and culture, and foster a culture of inclusivity,” says Kate Slyker, GCI’s chief marketing officer.

The Alaska Center for the Performing Arts has served as the arts and entertainment hub for eight resident companies, but visiting productions typically draw the highest ticket prices.

The exact lineup of shows for the inaugural season of Broadway Alaska won’t be announced until later this fall. At that time, season packages will go on sale to the public.
