The Railbelt Reliability Council (RRC), an organization formed in 2022 to coordinate operations, planning, and cooperation among the state’s grid-connected electric utilities, hired Edward Jenkin, an executive from Matanuska Electric Association (MEA), as its new President and CEO.

Jenkin starts his new role on January 3, 2025. His duties include transitioning RRC from the organizational development stage to performing its primary mission work. Jenkin was chosen after an extensive international search that attracted a diverse field of highly qualified candidates. According to the RRC board of directors, Jenkin is recognized for his expertise, reputation of integrity, and consistent leadership in ongoing efforts to improve Railbelt electric industry institutions and practices.

“I am thrilled that Mr. Jenkin is taking the helm of the Railbelt Reliability Council,” says RRC Board Chair Joel Groves. “Ed’s experience, leadership, and clear vision will directly empower the RRC to advance its core mission, ultimately producing long-term benefits for electric consumers across the Railbelt.”

For the past year, Jenkin has served as MEA’s Chief Energy Transformation Officer, exploring new technologies for sustainable solutions and a reduced environmental footprint. He was promoted to that role after serving as COO. Prior to joining MEA in 2014, Jenkin spent twenty-five years at Chugach Electric Association, including a stint as Vice President of Power Delivery.

“I am excited for the opportunity to lead the RRC and realize the value provided through Railbelt-wide standards and regional planning,” says Jenkin. “I believe the stakeholder-led organization is the right vehicle to bring enforceable standards and regionalized resource planning to the Railbelt to help achieve long-term reliability, sustainability, and affordability. I look forward to building on the progress the RRC has already made to deliver on our commitment to Alaskans.”
