The Wasilla-based heavy civil contractor Qayaq Construction has a new General Manager. Blake Anderson is promoted to lead the division of Alaska Civil Construction, an arm of UIC Commercial Services, itself a business line of Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation.

“Blake brings the kind of field experience, leadership, and accountability that’s critical to our success,” says Kodi Long, vice president of Alaska Civil Construction and the previous GM of Qayaq. “He’s earned the trust of our crews and our clients by consistently stepping up, solving problems, and executing projects across the state. As General Manager, Blake will build on our successes as we continue to grow Qayaq Construction.”

As General Manager, Anderson provides strategic and operational leadership across all Qayaq Construction’s projects.

Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering technology from Montana State University Bozeman. He joined Qayaq in 2021 after several years as a project engineer and project manager for oil field support services and heavy civil construction. His project history includes airport repairs in Tununak and Kiana, ice bridge construction on the Sagavanirktok River, and road rehabilitation on the Dalton, Richardson, and Elliott Highways.

Building the Manh Choh Access Road for Peak Gold near Tok has been a career highlight. “Throughout the construction process we were able to meet the project timeline despite limited access, increased scope, and various design changes,” says Anderson. “I was really proud of how our Qayaq team performed.”

Anderson looks forward to building on that kind of success, which he attributes to current Qayaq employees. “They’re the ones that make the company so successful, and I’m fortunate to be able to lead such a great group,” he says.
