UAF Names New Director of Bristol Bay Campus

The UAF College of Rural and Community Development appointed Wanda Wahl to serve as Director of the Bristol Bay Campus in Dillingham. Wahl had been serving as interim director since May 2021 and began working for the campus in 1985.
As director, Wahl oversees a campus that serves thirty-three remote villages scattered over a 55,000-square-mile area, including Bristol Bay, the Alaska Peninsula, the Pribilof Islands, and the Aleutian Islands. Learning centers are located in Dillingham, King Salmon, Togiak, New Stuyahok, St. Paul, and Unalaska.

Bristol Bay is one of the five rural campuses in the UAF college system focused on serving Alaska Native and nontraditional students through online, audio, and face-to-face learning opportunities.
Wahl is a lifelong Dillingham resident. She is an enrolled tribal member of Curyung, the tribe on whose ancestral land the Bristol Bay Campus is located. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon.
What happens when a city with fewer than 300 residents becomes a major freight and tourism hub, despite being accessible only by boat, plane, or a one-lane highway/railroad tunnel managed on a strict schedule?
If you’re in the City of Whittier, you get busy. The city has two separate transportation planning efforts underway, including a safety action plan under the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All initiative, which focuses on improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and emergency responders. The second is Whittier Moves, the city’s transportation master plan, which serves as the long-term roadmap for growth.
