UA Interim President Names Dr. Karen Carey as UAS Chancellor
UA Interim President Pat Pitney announced the appointment of Interim Chancellor Karen Carey as permanent chancellor for the University of Alaska Southeast. Carey has served as the UAS interim chancellor since July, succeeding former Chancellor Rick Caulfield who retired in June.
Before accepting the position as interim chancellor, Carey served as UAS provost. She joined UAS as provost in 2016. Carey earned her Ph.D. in school psychology from University of Cincinnati and came to UAS from the California State University Channel Islands, in Ventura, California where she served as the dean of arts & sciences. In that role she was responsible for strategic planning and student learning as well as managing academic programs with more than 200 faculty.
Carey’s appointment as permanent chancellor is effective immediately.
