The donation provides increased bandwidth for Alaska’s only tribal college and will significantly expand Iḷisaġvik’s internet speed and capacity.
The transaction will result in Alaska Communications becoming a privately held company and is expected to close in the second half of 2021.
Alaska Communications named William (Bill) H. Bishop president and chief executive officer. Bishop has served as Alaska Communications’ interim CEO since June 2019.
