Explore Fairbanks Announces Extension of United Airlines Service to Lower 48 Cities

FAIRBANKS, AK—United Airlines’ new nonstop service from Denver and San Francisco to Fairbanks as well as its returning nonstop service from Chicago to Fairbanks are all being extended to later in 2019.

All three flights were originally scheduled to end August 18. The Denver and San Francisco flights will be extended until the first week of September while the Chicago flight will be extended into October. The extension of the flights will allow visitors to Fairbanks an opportunity to try and see the northern lights, as the region’s official Aurora Season begins August 21 and runs through April 21.

The San Francisco route will be in operation from June 6 to September 3. The five-hour flights will operate Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday departing San Francisco at 7:51 p.m. and arriving in Fairbanks at 11:56 p.m. The southbound flights will depart Fairbanks on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 12:47 a.m. and arrive in San Francisco at 6:42 a.m.

The Denver service will be in operation from June 7 to September 2. The five-and-a-half-hour flights will operate Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday departing Denver at 6:56 p.m. and arriving in Fairbanks at 10:37 p.m., and will depart Fairbanks at 11:37 p.m., arriving in Denver at 6:52 a.m.

United has been offering nonstop summer seasonal service from Fairbanks to Chicago since 2013. The service runs daily from April 29 to October 10, an extension of more than two months over the summer 2018 schedule. The six-and-a-half-hour flight departs Chicago at 3:49 p.m. and arrives in Fairbanks at 7:22 p.m., and will depart Fairbanks at 8:17 p.m., arriving in Chicago at 5:03 a.m. the next day.

Fairbanks is also served seasonally with direct flights to Minneapolis with Delta Airlines, and year-round with service to Seattle with both Delta and Alaska airlines.
