Two New Programs Launch in Anchorage to Bolster Local Startups and Workforce

Nationally-ranked startup accelerator gener8tor, the 49th State Angel Fund, and the Municipality of Anchorage formally announced a new partnership to accelerate startup companies in Alaska and digitally upskill the workforce.
Starting in the spring of 2021, two annual gBETA programs for entrepreneurs and at least four Upskilling programs for job seekers will be offered through the collaboration.
The Municipality of Anchorage is providing initial funding for the two programs as part of a concerted effort to help the Anchorage economy and workforce adapt to the economic impacts of COVID-19 and beyond.
gBETA accelerates the growth of early-stage companies through its network-driven program. gBETA supports five teams per cohort and requires no fees and no equity.
This program is designed to help startups gain early customer traction on their product or idea, and establish and execute on metrics that make them competitive applicants for full-time, equity-based accelerators or seed investment. Participants receive intensive and individualized coaching and access to gener8tor’s national network of mentors, customers, corporate partners, and investors.
gBETA Anchorage is one of 20+ gBETA programs across the country. This program will complement existing Alaska programs such as the Alaska Angel Conference, UAA Upstart Alpha, UAF Center ICE, Path to Prosperity, and Launch Alaska.

gener8tor Upskilling is a free skills training program for under- and unemployed individuals looking to gain new career skills. The five-week, cohort-based program will include:
- Self-paced virtual curriculum from Microsoft and LinkedIn for participants to learn skills for in-demand roles while earning certifications and badges;
- One-on-one concierge support from the gener8tor team on the skills content, plus coaching on interview skills and resume, LinkedIn profile and cover letter writing;
- Access to a network of peers who can support each other and form a community;
- Opportunities to interview with companies ready to hire candidates with these skills.

The gBETA and Upskilling programs are currently accepting applications and will be kicking off in early May.
