A new Executive Director is taking the helm at an Anchorage-based nonprofit that supports adults with developmental disabilities or mental illness. Assets selected Gina Bastian for the position, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations while working with the board of directors on strategic growth and increased impact.

“I’ve always respected Assets’ commitment to empowering Alaskans with developmental disabilities and/or mental illnesses to lead meaningful lives,” says Bastian. “Assets is supported by an incredibly talented leadership team, and I’m thrilled to work alongside our dedicated staff and board to continue advancing this critical mission.”

The board of directors chose Bastian from a diverse field of candidates in a nationwide search. Bastian comes to Assets from the Alaska Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. She previously served on the Assets board as well.

Assets Board Chair Brenda Duty says, “We are so excited to welcome Gina as our new Executive Director. Her leadership and her passion for community impact will be a tremendous asset to Assets as we move into the future.”

For more than four decades, Assets has provided critical wrap-around services to individuals 18 and older so they can live, work, and recreate in the community as independently as possible.

Alaska Native regional, village, and urban corporations operate in every industry all around the state, often in regions that don’t attract attention from other corporations. Our cover story for December 2025 is an excellent example, as it covers the investment Aleut is making in its region, Unangam Tanangin, or the Aleutian Islands, which stretch 1,000 miles into the Bering Sea and Pacific Ocean. The Alaska Native special section also visits Kodiak and the handful of corporations benefiting that region, and looks back over fifty years of ANCSA corporation history and how the corporations have built, maintained, and strengthened communications and relationships with their shareholders.
