Alaska State Fair Seeks Candidates for Two Open Board Seats

Palmer, Alaska – Alaska State Fair, Inc. is currently seeking candidates interested in serving on the Board of Directors. The candidate application deadline is Friday, March 15 at 4:30 p.m.

The seven-member Board of Directors is responsible for setting policy for Alaska State Fair, Inc., a private, nonprofit, 501(c)3 corporation. Current directors include Stephen Brown, President; Kristy Bernier, Vice President; Jason Ortiz, Secretary; Danny Consenstein, Treasurer; John Tracy, Director; Lara McGinnnis, Director; and Jon-Marc Petersen, Director.

Current 2018 annual and lifetime (having joined before March 15, 2019) Fair members will vote to fill two open board seats which each serve a three-year term. Incumbent, Board President Stephen Brown is up for re-election. Directors will be elected at the Fair’s annual meeting, scheduled for Friday May 15, 2019 at 7pm.

Directors’ responsibilities are to set policies to accomplish the Fair’s mission statement: Produce a traditional State Fair which educates and entertains Fairgoers; Provide stable finances through good business practices, statewide outreach, partnerships and hosting a variety of community, cultural and business events.

The election committee is seeking individuals who can envision the Fair as a gathering place for all Alaskans by encompassing the past, present and future, and individuals who can make the full commitment of time and self-discipline it takes to set policy.

Interested candidates can learn more about the directors’ roles, duties and responsibilities by reviewing the Alaska State Fair, Inc. Articles of Incorporation available at alaskastatefair.org.

To be eligible, candidates must be Alaska residents, at least 18 years old, and be members of Alaska State Fair, Inc., either as a lifetime member or an annual member in the current year. Must not have been employed in the last 365 days by ASF, not an immediate family member of an employee at ASF or an individual sharing a domicile with an employee of the Fair within the second degree of consanguinity. The deadline to become a current 2019 member is, Friday March 15 at 4:30 p.m.

Interested candidates should obtain an application packet, available at alaskastatefair.org or at the Fair Main Office, located at 2075 Glenn Highway in Palmer. Completed materials should be emailed to jerry@alaskastatefair.org, or mailed or delivered to Alaska State Fair, Inc., Attention: Jerry Baker, 2075 Glenn Highway, Palmer, Alaska 99645. Applications must be received no later than March 15 at 4:30 p.m.
