Sports play on the big screen next to a mini-fridge full of drinks. This is a clinic.

Gameday Men’s Health is a franchise specializing in testosterone replacement therapy, erectile dysfunction treatments, peptide and vitamin supplements, and weight loss programs. The first location in Alaska, offering concierge care for hormone health and sexual wellness, opened this week with a ribbon cutting hosted by the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce.

Coordinated Care

The décor evokes a “man cave,” according to Justin Penny, owner of the Anchorage franchise. Emulating a sports lounge is meant to overcome any trepidation that clients might have about seeing a doctor.

“This is something I was looking for, as a patient, and couldn’t find in Alaska. I figured if I was looking for it, then somebody else was too,” says Penny.

Gameday Men’s Health is a national brand launched in 2018, now with 404 locations across the United States and Canada. The Anchorage clinic at 2525 C Street includes its own lab for blood testing. Penny calls that feature a key differentiator, allowing patients to receive results in twenty minutes.

“They sit down with their provider with those blood results from that appointment, talk about their medical history, background, and goals, and if they qualify for treatment, they can get their first injection in the same visit,” Penny says. A process that might otherwise take several visits over weeks or months can be completed in one hour.

Penny enters the healthcare industry after nearly twenty years as a banker. “I had enough of corporate life and wanted to go all-in and build something for me and my family,” he says.

As franchise administrator, Penny had to assemble a small staff to run the clinic. How does a banker recruit a medical director? “I have a small cabin in Petersville,” Penny recounts. “My neighbor’s a [physician assistant]. I said, ‘Hey, do you know anybody?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, I work for one who might be interested.’ Twenty minutes later, I got a phone call.”

The concierge approach at Gameday Men’s Health involves a monthly subscription, rather than fees for service. Penny adds, “There’s no contracts, so if you’re not getting the service that you want, you can walk at any time.”

Designed with comfort and discretion in mind, Gameday Men’s Health is designed to feel more like a high-end lounge than a doctor’s office. Penny says that’s his way of helping patients make the most of their lives. “When men feel their best, they show up better—for their families, their careers, and their communities,” he says. “That’s what Gameday is all about.”

Land animals attract visitors to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) near Portage, from the elk, deer, muskox, moose, and wood bison to the bears, lynx, and porcupines. Situated at the head of Turnagain Arm as it is, AWCC also looks toward the marine habitat.
