Following the trend of growth, R&M Consultants opened an office in Wasilla, strengthening the multidisciplinary engineering firm’s ability to serve clients and communities in one of Alaska’s fastest-growing regions.

Investing in People and Relationships

The Wasilla office at 2002 East Bogard Road, Suite B, supports R&M’s engineering, planning, surveying, geosciences, environmental, and construction support services. Establishing a permanent presence in the Mat-Su improves local responsiveness, enhances collaboration with clients and partners, and positions the firm to better support infrastructure, land development, and community projects throughout the region, says CEO Len Story.

“R&M has always been about investing in people and the relationships that knit Alaska’s communities together,” he says. “As someone who has lived and worked across this state for many years, I’ve seen firsthand how strong local partnerships make projects better. Expanding our presence in the Mat-Su—and strengthening our commitment to every Alaska community we serve—helps us stay closely connected to our clients, while also attracting and supporting local professionals who live and work right here in the Valley. That local expertise is invaluable, and it’s what allows us to deliver practical, lasting solutions rooted in Alaska’s unique conditions.”

The new office is fully operational and staffed, providing a local base for project teams working throughout Mat-Su and surrounding communities. Jason Johnston serves as the primary point of contact for the Wasilla office. He is a licensed professional civil engineer with experience supporting transportation, site development, and infrastructure projects across Alaska, and he works closely with R&M’s multi-discipline teams to coordinate local efforts and respond to client needs.

Leveling Up

R&M also achieved Level 2 under the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), a US Department of Defense designation that enables the firm to continue supporting federal clients while safeguarding sensitive project information.

Working with Anchorage-based IT consultant Stratus Services, R&M completed a rigorous review required for Level 2 certification, which includes enhanced security requirements for handling controlled unclassified information.

“Cybersecurity is essential to the work we do,” says Jere Fisher, R&M’s group manager for IT. “With Stratus’ expertise, we were able to implement the required controls and confirm we’re doing the right things to keep our data secure.”

CMMC Level 2 includes 110 controls based on federal standards for how organizations must project sensitive government information, everything from access and storage to system monitoring and incident response.

“With the completion of this certificate, they’re one of the first approximately 500 companies to achieve Level 2 compliance out of the 119,000 the DOD estimates will need it,” says Joshua Rabe, CEO of Stratus Services.

Last spring, when the final phases of CMMC implementation were taking effect, Saxman-based Cape Fox Corporation likewise achieved Level 2 certification.
