Coffman Engineers

Among the multiple disciplines covered by Coffman Engineers, the firm is adding a new capability for control systems engineering at its Anchorage office with a new hire.

Amber Benham earned her professional license in control systems engineering and joins Coffman in the electrical department.

Benham received double bachelor’s degrees from Montana State University in chemical engineering and biological engineering. She has nine years of experience in the refining industry as a process control and control systems engineer, designing automation, instrumentation, alarm and safety systems, and distributed control system (DCS) configuration. Prior to joining Coffman, she served as a process control engineer on the Marathon Martinez Renewable Fuels joint venture and at the Marathon Kenai Refinery. She also supported two separate DCS modernization projects during her time at Anvil (for Shell’s Puget Sound Refinery).

Coffman’s principal electrical engineers Logan Haines and Nicholai Smith released a joint statement saying, “We are thrilled to have Amber join the Coffman team. Her experience and skillset with process control and safety systems complements many of the services we provide and expands upon the engineering services we are able to support our valued clients with. We welcome Amber and congratulate her on becoming Coffman’s first professional Control Systems Engineer and look forward to her future here at Coffman.”

Alaska Native regional, village, and urban corporations operate in every industry all around the state, often in regions that don’t attract attention from other corporations. Our cover story for December 2025 is an excellent example, as it covers the investment Aleut is making in its region, Unangam Tanangin, or the Aleutian Islands, which stretch 1,000 miles into the Bering Sea and Pacific Ocean. The Alaska Native special section also visits Kodiak and the handful of corporations benefiting that region, and looks back over fifty years of ANCSA corporation history and how the corporations have built, maintained, and strengthened communications and relationships with their shareholders.
