The leadership team at Roger Hickel Contracting (RHC) now includes Kris Squires as Vice President. In this role, he oversees estimating, project management, and business development.

Squires joined RHC in 2014 as an estimator and project manager, bringing a background in civil engineering and a strong understanding of the construction industry. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at UAA and worked briefly as a civil engineer before transitioning into construction.

A lifelong Alaskan, Squires lives in Anchorage with his wife, Brandi Squires, who is also a valued member of the RHC team.

Established in 1995, RHC has completed more than 400 civil and vertical construction projects for clients ranging from the Municipality of Anchorage and the State of Alaska to Walmart and FedEx.

New Oil on the North Slope

In mid-May it was 19°F and windy at the Aurora Hotel in Deadhorse. As I stood in the parking lot surveying the surroundings, I chatted with a gentleman from Texas who works for Nabors Alaska Drilling and was in town as part of a crew tasked with getting a previously inactive drill rig up and running. He said that, according to his supervisor, spring is the windy season on the North Slope. The gusts were bracing, numbing the fingers holding my camera, but most of my attention was focused on what I could capture through the lens: work trucks, shipping containers, buildings obscured by snow whipped up by the wind.
