A new multipurpose event center adds flexible indoor space for the Alaska State Fair. Located near the Purple Gate entrance and designed with year-round community use in mind, the new facility will be able to host a wide variety of events, along with restrooms that are accessible from both inside and outside the building.

Engagement, Celebration, and Connection

Construction is underway on the 8,300 square-foot structure, with plans to complete the project in time for the August 15 start of the fair in Palmer. The building is being constructed by Kuchar Construction, the same local company that built the new Sluicebox building in 2023. Thus, fairgoers can expect a similar look and quality that blends with the existing fairgrounds aesthetic.

“This project reflects our commitment to providing a dynamic and safe gathering place for our community—not just during the fair but all year long,” says Jeff Curtis, CEO of the Alaska State Fair. “We’re thrilled to bring this new resource to life and create even more opportunities for engagement, celebration, and connection.”

The new building will enhance accessibility and convenience for guests during the Alaska State Fair while also expanding the fairgrounds’ capacity to support meetings, markets, receptions, educational events, and more. The event center will include a private room for nursing mothers and a food preparation space for various types of events.

The multipurpose building is smaller than Alaska State Fair’s major rentable structures. Raven Hall, for instance, has 20,000 square feet of clear-span space, better suited for small conventions, trade or consumer shows, exhibitions, or large meetings. Alaska State Fair has rented Raven Hall for weddings, memorials, graduations, and dances as well. And Raven Hall is less than half the footprint of the 42,000-square-foot Farm Exhibits Building.

Alaska State Fair is funding the new event center project independently, thanks to generous and continued support from Alaskans.
