UMIAQ Design, a division of UIC Commercial Services, brought aboard Seán Carlson as Senior Architect, bringing two decades of architectural experience with a portfolio that includes higher education, aviation, healthcare, and other public infrastructure projects within the state.

Jessica Cederberg, principal architect at UMIAQ Design, welcomes Carlson’s focus on functional facilities that serve communities. “Seán brings an expert-level command of complex building codes to his role at UMIAQ Design,” she says. “He also serves on the Municipality of Anchorage Code Adoption Committee and has performed critical reviews of the International Building (nonstructural), Fire, and Energy Conservation codes. This keeps Seán at the forefront of regulatory changes and strengthens his ties to key municipal stakeholders.”

Carlson holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Prior to moving to Alaska in 2005, Carlson held early-career roles in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Texas.
