Tlingit & Haida Promotes Reentry & Recovery Operations Manager
The Central Council of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (Tlingit & Haida) promoted Christina Lee to the position of Reentry & Recovery Operations Manager. Lee has been working since January 2021 as the Reentry & Recovery coordinator.
In her new role, Lee manages the tribe’s three non-congregate shelters, which provide sober and supportive housing to people released from incarceration or returning from treatment. Tlingit & Haida has two non-congregate shelters that can house up to twenty-seven men. The nine-bed women’s shelter, Haven House, is under reconstruction until next spring after it was destroyed by flooding in 2021.
The senior director of Tlingit & Haida’s community and behavioral services division, Dr. Tina Woods, says Lee’s promotion is well deserved. “Christina has become skilled in managing each property, ensuring requirements are met functionally and aesthetically for the participants to feel a sense of belonging and home,” Woods says. “It’s exciting to see her benefit from career advancement opportunities, especially as someone who presents with ‘lived experience’ and is driven by compassion for working with our program participants.”
Lee’s Tlingit name is Sheét and she is from the Deisheetaan clan. She holds a Chemical Dependency Counselor I certification from Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health Certification. Lee also serves as a steering team member on the Juneau Reentry Coalition, which identifies and implements strategies that increase the success of justice-involved individuals.
“I cannot express how grateful I am to not only be working for my Tribe, but also being able to give back and help our people. My passion and dedication is helping others. I am proud to be working for Tlingit & Haida and honored they have given me the privilege to step up and see potential in me even when I didn’t see it in myself,” Lee says.
