The village corporation for Saxman, near Ketchikan, has reason to celebrate. After two years of diligent work, Cape Fox Corporation (CFC) secured a perfect Level 2 cybersecurity certification score, giving it a leg up as it seeks work in the US Department of Defense (DOD) contracting realm.

A Tremendous Accomplishment

Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is a DOD standard to ensure defense contractors and subcontractors keep sensitive information secure. CMMC is required of all DOD contractors. Implementation requires self-assessments on cybersecurity compliance and compliance with 110 security practices. The CMMC framework protects controlled unclassified information across the Defense Industrial Base.

Level 2 certification positions CFC to work on DOD contract opportunities. DOD has more than 300,000 companies that provide support, with an estimated 76,000 of them required to be CMMC certified. Only a few hundred companies achieve certification, though. Certification means that CFC is one of only a small percentage of companies immediately compliant with the new, more rigorous CMMC rule that went into effect on December 16, 2024.

“Achieving CMMC Level 2 certification with a perfect score of 110 is a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to the dedication and expertise of our entire team,” says CFC CEO Chris Luchtefeld. “This certification not only highlights our unwavering commitment to cybersecurity and protecting sensitive information but also positions us as a leader in our industry. I couldn’t be prouder of our team’s hard work and determination over the past two years to reach this milestone.”

The CFC family of businesses is divided between two distinct groups: the Federal Contracting Group and the Commercial Group. Collectively, CFC and its subsidiaries specialize in tourism, information technology, professional services, healthcare, marketing, training services, and logistical services.
