On April 13, Brown Jug—Alaska’s oldest and largest package store retailer—opened its newest location at 1160 Huffman Park Drive with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
“As a 100 percent Alaskan owned and operated company, our team continues to lead our industry in social responsibility and staying active and engaged in every area where a Brown Jug store is located. This new store represents our continued commitment to investing in our community and providing an elevated shopping experience to our customers with extremely competitive pricing,” said Matt Thorpe, President of Liquor Stores USA North, Inc. dba Brown Jug. “In the 4,000-plus-square-foot store, shoppers will find one of South Anchorages largest selection of wines, local craft beers, and spirits,” Thorpe continued.
The new store represents a large investment in South Anchorage and will create at least eight full-time jobs. The store’s ambiance to be slightly more boutique style, featuring an area called “The Cache” that will offer rare and exclusive wines and spirits, as well as cigars selected by Alaska’s only Cigar Sommelier, Whitney Hillman.

“Brown Jug is proud of the fact that it is locally owned and community minded. For over 80 years, Brown Jug has built and maintained a solid reputation in Alaska of providing quality customer service, great product selection, and competitive prices,” said Thorpe. The Brown Jug chain, founded by an Alaska family, was purchased in 2020 by Afognak Native Corporation.
Brown Jug employs more than 200 Alaskans in twenty-three stores statewide in Anchorage, Wasilla, and Fairbanks.
