Juneteenth Citywide Celebration

June 19 - 21Free
Juneteenth Anchorage

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. It celebrates a point in African American history that changed the direction of the nation’s future and transcended generations.

The Juneteenth Anchorage Citywide Celebration, entitled “Celebrating Black Excellence: Past, Present, Future,” will be marked with celebrations, guest speakers, entertainment, education, learning our history, and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement, and for planning the future. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities, and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in the country’s history that shaped and continues to influence society today.
