Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium

This three-week program is an effort to bring together Indigenous and Western worldviews and ways of knowing in an effort for mutual understanding, reciprocity, respect, and the co-production of solutions for health disparities among Alaska Native/American Indian people. Week one is designed for experienced researchers and health professionals, during which topics such as decolonizing research practices, indigenous research methodologies, and community-based participatory and culturally responsive research, among other topics, will be discussed. Week two focuses on research ethics and is designed for all levels of research experience. Presentations will cover the history of research in Alaska, historical trauma, decolonizing research practices, and more. Week three will focus on introductory research, designed for those who are interested in health research but who have little to no experience. Speakers will introduce Western and Indigenous research methods, explore different types of health research, and more.
