Nov 28, 2023 | Engineering, Right Moves

R&M Consultants

Josh Bourgouin recently joined R&M Consultants as a Staff Engineer in the firm’s Site Development Group. In this position, Bourgouin assists with site layout, vehicle and pedestrian access, disability access, driveways and parking, signing and striping, grading and drainage, stormwater analysis and management, and utility connections.

Bourgouin has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University. He comes to Alaska from Houston, Texas with two years of experience working on residential site development projects. His experience includes lot and street layouts, grading, storm drainage design, detention basin design, roadway designs, storm calculations, construction cost estimates, and utility designs. He is skilled in the use of Civil 3D and excels in communicating with clients and agencies.

“I chose R&M based on recommendations from family and friends, as well as an interest in the type of work done at R&M,” Bourgouin says. “It has also given me the opportunity to move to Alaska, which has always been a dream of mine!”

Since joining R&M, Bourgouin has supported airport snow removal equipment buildings in King Salmon, Seward, and False Pass; the new Mertarvik K-12 School; and several utility substations. He has assisted in performing site layouts, design of water and sanitation systems, site grading, and storm drain systems.

“Josh came to R&M with a solid site development background and was able to pick up some current projects and advance them efficiently. He quickly became a team player, helping to get several projects delivered on time to our clients. In his first week, he participated in a site visit to King Salmon, where he impressed the client and team members,” says Site Development Group Manager Chris Black. “Josh is a reliable self-starter who often surprises me with how quickly accomplishes tasks with a high level of quality. In his short time here, he has made numerous friends at R&M, and I am proud to have him as a team member.”

Outside of work, Bourgouin enjoys camping, hiking, fishing, cooking, and traveling. He spends time with his wife and dog while trying to improve his hunting skills or cheering for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

“At R&M I hope to become a more developed engineer while exploring the Alaska wilderness,” Bourgouin says. “I want to keep working toward my PE license as well as create mutually beneficial relationships with clients and coworkers.”
