Girl Scouts of Alaska is getting a new CEO. Jennifer Pollard joins the organization August 14, coming from thread, a childcare resource and referral organization, where she was chief marketing and fund development officer.
Board chair Mitzi Barker says, “After an extensive, six-month national search, the board of directors unanimously determined Jennifer was the best and most qualified candidate to serve as our new CEO. We are excited about the future of Girl Scouts of Alaska under her leadership.”
Pollard has been working in the Alaska nonprofit sector for more than ten years. She has experience in for-profit, nonprofit, and small business management, focusing on strategic planning, marketing, fund development, and technology.

“Girl Scouts gives girls the tools they need to navigate the world,” Pollard says. “I’ve dedicated the past nine years of my career to youth services, and I am so honored to lead Girl Scouts of Alaska as we continue to help girls explore new interests, take on leadership skills, participate in fun, life-changing adventures, and imagine the future.”
Girl Scouts of Alaska is one of 111 councils nationwide chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA to deliver Girl Scout programs within specific geographic boundaries. The council’s territory covers Alaska south of the 63rd parallel, or approximately the latitude of the Alaska Range and the mouth of the Yukon River. The local council serves more than 1,500 girls and 1,200 adult volunteers and maintains two camp properties and a traveling community camp program.
What happens when a city with fewer than 300 residents becomes a major freight and tourism hub, despite being accessible only by boat, plane, or a one-lane highway/railroad tunnel managed on a strict schedule?
If you’re in the City of Whittier, you get busy. The city has two separate transportation planning efforts underway, including a safety action plan under the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All initiative, which focuses on improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and emergency responders. The second is Whittier Moves, the city’s transportation master plan, which serves as the long-term roadmap for growth.
