Alaska Humanities Forum Unveils New Website for 50th Anniversary

The Alaska Humanities Forum has had a website for exactly half of its 50-year existence. Now, as it starts its second half-century, the organization is overhauling its online presence.
Better Connections
Since 1972, the Alaska Humanities Forum has been a leading nonprofit organization connecting Alaskans through stories, ideas, and experiences that positively change lives and strengthen communities. Its first website launched in 1997, updating a dozen times across several platforms through the years.
Working with local developers from Innovate Solutions, a new website was built from the ground up to enhance the user experience and ensure the Alaska Humanities Forum’s programs are accessible to everyone. The new site at akhf.org includes features it’s never had before:
- Improved navigation tools, including a site search function, redesigned menu, and database integration.
- Reorganized programs, staff, and board pages to help visitors find what they are looking for faster while increasing the discovery of other areas of the forum’s work.
- An easy-to-use donation button that makes it simple to contribute financially.
- Improved language accessibility with Google Translate.
That last feature caught the attention of Kameron Perez-Verdia, the forum’s president and CEO. “Thanks to the integration of Google Translate, our website is available in languages other than English for the first time,” he says. “This new accessibility feature is game-changing for our organization. It will allow us to connect with even more diverse audiences throughout the state.”
The Alaska Humanities Forum is one of fifty-six such state and territorial councils established under the National Endowment for the Humanities. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, its stated mission is to build a culturally rich, economically vibrant, and equitable Alaska where people are engaged, informed, and connected. The website is part of carrying out that mission.
