Ski Season Opens at Alyeska Resort

Alyeska Resort in Girdwood opens its slopes to skiing this weekend with more snow than almost any other in North America: 295 inches total, 112 inches at the base.

Alyeska is opening with a significant amount of terrain, accessed via four chairlifts and two magic carpets, suitable for all ability levels. The Mountain Safety team is pushing hard to open more of Alyeska’s signature steep and deep terrain, which will be online in the coming weeks. The rest of the mountain offers 1,610 skiable acres, 76 named trails, and more than 669 inches of snow annually.
“We could not be more excited for the ski season,” says Alyeska Resort General Manager Mandy Hawes. “We know Alaskans are excited to dust off their skis and boards and hit the trails again and again this winter, and already they are in for a ski season that will not disappoint. We also like to think of Alyeska as a great getaway for Alaskans who need a break from the work week. They can experience the beauty of their state all while enjoying the many comforts of an upscale hotel and resort.”
Returning this year, the popular Alyeska Choice Pass allows guests to skip the ticket lines and head straight to the slopes, while also saving 20 percent off of regularly priced lift tickets.

Alaskans looking for a mini getaway at Alyeska Resort can take advantage of the Stay & Ski package for a one-night stay and two adult lift tickets.
Alyeska’s on-site restaurants like Sakura Asian Bistro, Sitzmark Bar & Grill, Bore Tide Deli & Bar, and Aurora Bar and Grill are all open and accepting guests. These restaurants range from the upscale at Sakura to the mountain-side hang at Bore Tide. Guests of the resort can also take advantage of the Alyeska Resort Spa, pool, and fitness center.
Ski season at Alyeska runs through April 24.
Meanwhile, Hilltop Ski Area on the Anchorage Hillside opened its season a week earlier, on December 2. The slopes, operated by the nonprofit Youth Exploring Adventure, feature expanded outdoor seating and a new fire pit.
