More than $5,000 Raise at Fairbanks Walk for Charity

The Eighteenth Fairbanks Visitor Industry Walk for Charity was held on Friday, May 14, 2021. Families, friends and community groups gathered to support local nonprofits.
The 131 walkers raised more than $5,000 for thirty-six registered local nonprofits. All proceeds will be distributed to the designated 501 (c)(3) charities. Since inception in 2001, the Fairbanks-area Walk for Charity events have generated a total of $385,975 for local nonprofits.
The event was coordinated by Explore Fairbanks and the Fairbanks Chapter of the Alaska Travel Industry Association. Walkers strolled along the river walk from Pioneer Park to downtown Fairbanks while enjoying a historical walking tour learning about the history and culture of their community. Participants were eligible to win one of the 30 door prizes, which included trips to the Arctic Circle, rail passes and overnight stays.
At times generating 7,000 jobs in the Interior, local tourism businesses make the tourism industry the 2nd largest employer in Fairbanks’ economy. Travel businesses large and small are intimately involved in their communities, supporting local charities with financial contributions, auction items, door prizes, volunteers, and more.
