Northrim Bank is honored to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The bank opened on December 4, 1990, in a trailer on the parking lot of the current headquarters in midtown Anchorage.

Northrim was founded with the intent to be a strong, independent local band with community and customer service at the heart of every decision. This remains true today as Northrim continues to serve the needs of Alaskans throughout the state. The bank was started with $8 million in capital and 21 chapter employees. Today, the bank has more than $2.1 billion in assets and more than 325 employees. What began with one small branch in Anchorage is now a statewide entity with sixteen branches, a loan production office, ten residential mortgage locations, and multiple divisions and affiliates.

“Our mission has always been to be Alaska’s most trusted financial institutions and we are so proud of the accomplishments of Northrim Bank during the past thirty years,” says Joe Schierhorn, chairman, president, and CEO of Northrim Bank.

“From the beginning, we have been committed to providing a higher level of customer service throughout Alaska and to supporting the community. It has been exciting to be part of Nothrim’s growth over the years.”

In it’s history, Northrim has given more than $10 million to community organizations to help support low-income families and higher education and to create community and economic development opportunities across Alaska.

Northrim’s employees have also supported their local communities by volunteering thousands of hours a year to organizations they are passionate about.

2020 has been no exception to the high level of customer service provided by Northrim’s employees. During the pandemic, Northrim employees have helped meet the needs of the community by producing more than a quarter of the Paycheck Protection Program loans for small businesses throughout Alaska, as well as ensuring operation so customers were able to complete banking transactions during this time. The bank also provided contributions to area organizations that were serving those directly impacted by COVID-19.

Northrim’s success is because of its employees. The growth of the bank would not have been possible without the dedication of its employees and the loyal business of its customers. Northrim’s leadership is looking forward to the future and is proud to have been part of the Alaska community for the past thirty years.
