Matson’s new Alaska-Asia Express (AAX) service was launched on September 29 with the inaugural voyage from Dutch Harbor carrying Alaska seafood destined for China and Japan.

The AAX service provides direct, bi-weekly service to Shanghai and Ningbo with nearly forty additional Asia connections available via Matson’s partner network.

The AAX service connects with Matson’s existing Alaska service, which provides Dutch Harbor with fast, weekly service from Kodiak and Anchorage. Alaskans across the state have easy access to the AAX service via truck and rail connections to Anchorage.

“We are excited to launch the AAX service,” said Bal Dreyfus, Matson’s senior vice president, Alaska. “The new service offers Alaska’s seafood industry the flexibility to easily reroute shipments from export to domestic—or vice versa—and provides Alaskans across the state with an additional connection to Asian markets.”

Dreyfus continued, “Matson continues to expand and invest in its Alaska services for the long term, and this new Asia service is just the latest example.”
