R&M Consultants, Inc. (R&M) Promotes Three Employees into Management Roles
John Daley assumed Group Manager of Waterfront Engineering in the wake of Kim Nielsen’s retirement. Daley brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He joined R&M in 2013 as a Senior Project Engineer and has more than twenty-seven years of experience in waterfront and coastal engineering design, construction, and inspection. John’s work has included a wide variety of coastal, arctic, and waterfront engineering projects, including breakwaters, harbors, float systems, various types of docks and wharves, bridges, flood control projects, erosion control projects, and bridge, dock and harbor inspections. Over his career, he has led numerous port and harbor projects, such as the Biorka Island dock replacement, Homer deep water dock feasibility study, Cold Bay dock rehabilitation and Homer ferry terminal improvements. John holds both a bachelor’s and master’s in civil engineering from UAA, as well as an associate’s in diving technology from Highline Community College. He is a professional civil and structural engineer, registered in Alaska; a NACE Corrosion Technologist; and certified in Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges and Confined Space Entry.

Tim Grier has taken on the role of Vice President of Engineering. Grier has been with R&M for thirteen years, formerly serving as Group Manager of Surface Transportation. He has thirty years of civil engineering experience and is well versed in the planning, design, and construction of road, water, sewer, and solid waste facilities, as well as general civil site design. In his new role, Tim is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of R&M’s engineering department that includes water resources, structural engineering, surface transportation, airport engineering, site development, and waterfront engineering. He brings a wealth of industry experience, a strong technical background and a keen business sense to this role. Tim also serves on the firm’s Board of Directors. He holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering and is a professional civil engineer registered in Alaska.
Lance Debernardi has been a Senior Project Engineer in R&M’s Surface Transportation Group for the past 12 years. He has twenty-nine years of experience as a project manager and senior highway design engineer, which includes roadway geometrics, drainage, roadside safety, construction traffic control and intersection signalization. Lance has managed major roadway projects, including the Fairview loop road rehabilitation, Eklutna river bridge replacement, Sterling Highway MP 45-60 and Dalton Highway MP 11-18 reconstruction. He brings a solid technical background along with strong leadership skills to his new role as Group Manager where he is responsible for day-to-day management of the Surface Transportation Group. Lance holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering from the University of Utah and is a professional civil engineer registered in Alaska.
