Hecla Mining Company continues work to identify immediate needs caused by the pandemic.

Recognizing that first responders in Southeast Alaska need personal protective equipment (PPE), Hecla Greens Creek has worked with the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) to donate 30,000 protective masks to the City and Borough of Juneau and 25 cases (12,500 pairs) of gloves to the Juneau Police Department.

CBJ Emergency Operations Center Logistics Section Chief George Schaaf said, “We’re very grateful to Hecla for donating these masks to CBJ. They are being provided to first responders at the Juneau Police Department, as well as supporting various task forces through the Emergency Operations Center. The masks from Hecla will also allow us to reopen essential services and facilities safely while we wait for backordered supplies to arrive.”

Greens Creek Manager of Government and Community Relations Mike Satre said, “Hecla Greens Creek is proud to continue our community donations as we all work to fight the spread of COVID-19. We know our first responders need PPE now more than ever, and we are also proud to be an integral part of safely re-opening Juneau.”
