Powering the Businesses that Power Alaska

Since 1990, Northrim Bank has been deeply rooted in Alaska, supporting key industries including oil and gas, construction, transportation, healthcare, Alaska Native regional and village corporations, government, fishing, tourism and education, while reinvesting billions into Alaska’s economy.

We take pride in helping to improve economic vitality and quality of life in Alaska by:

  • employing more than 500 team members dedicated to Northrim’s mission;
  • growing to serve communities in expansive geographic areas;
  • supporting Alaska’s future leaders with our internship and trainee programs, and by funding scholarships for University of Alaska system students;
  • logging more than 4,100 employee volunteer hours, and contributing more than $1.7 million statewide in 2025; and
  • providing critical funding for affordable housing and community development across the state. During the first quarter of 2026, through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB) Member Impact Grant Program, Northrim awarded funding to 31 Alaska nonprofit organizations. FHLB Des Moines matched $2.50 for every $1.00 contributed by Northrim, up to the program maximum of $200,000, which Northrim reached.

Northrim serves the unique needs of Alaskans and businesses of all sizes, and it is rewarding to see our impact across the state as we work to drive our state forward.

Helping Address Alaska’s Housing Challenge

Northrim has long been committed to expanding housing opportunities across Alaska, working closely with nonprofit organizations, developers and community partners to support affordable, low-income and workforce housing initiatives. As the largest servicer of Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) loans in the state, we are proud to support AHFC’s mission of providing Alaskans with access to safe, quality housing.

Over the past decade, we have financed more than 600 housing units for families and seniors and invested more than $30 million as a tax credit equity partner. In total, Northrim has committed approximately $135 million to housing projects throughout Alaska, representing a significant investment in communities across the state.

In 2024, we launched a housing task force that brings together employees from across the Bank to better understand the challenges faced by developers, consumers and housing organizations. The group evaluates existing financing programs, explores innovative solutions, advocates for policy changes and works to secure additional state and federal funding to support workforce housing development.

One outcome of this effort is the introduction of our Workforce Housing Construction Loan program, which streamlines construction-to-permanent financing and helps experienced developers deliver high-quality multifamily housing of five or more units for Alaska’s workforce earning up to 120% of Area Median Income.

Housing availability remains one of Alaska’s most significant economic challenges. Northrim is committed to working alongside our partners to expand housing opportunities and help build stronger communities across the state.
