Ted Stevens began a tradition of inviting Alaskans to an annual holiday luncheon, to mingle with old and new friends and discuss the workings of Washington, DC. When he left the Senate in 2008, he passed this tradition on to Alaska's new senior senator, Lisa Murkowski.
