Stantec Awarded for Promoting Native STEM Education

Stantec—the Alberta-based engineering firm with offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Wasilla—is the winner of a Corporate Partner Service award from the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES).
Engineering Aces
The award recognizes organizations that provide exceptional support to AISES by promoting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers, especially among Indigenous people.
“This award reflects on the effort Stantec puts into supporting AISES and its mission to create an inclusive STEM work environment,” says Adam Leggett, Stantec’s Alaska Native program manager. “Personally, I find partnering with AISES to focus on advancing Indigenous education and work opportunities inspirational and rewarding.”
The partner service awards were presented October 8 at the AISES national conference in Palm Springs, California.
Earlier this year, AISES recognized Stantec as one of the top fifty STEM workplaces for Indigenous STEM professionals. Firms selected for the list are required to meet several criteria:
- Diversity recruitment efforts
- Recruiting for jobs in the STEM fields
- Actively recruiting within Indigenous audiences
- Sustained support of the AISES mission
Stantec continues to strengthen its connections to Indigenous communities and find new ways to make meaningful contributions by supporting local initiatives and collaborating with local and national Indigenous organizations. The company says that embracing diversity of all kinds creates a work environment and organizational culture that help attract and retain the best people with the right skills
