New General Manager Named for Municipal Light and Power

Mar 29, 2019 | Energy, News, Right Moves

ANCHORAGE—Mayor Ethan Berkowitz announced the appointment of Anna Henderson to the position of General Manager (GM) for Municipal Light and Power (ML&P). Henderson will take over for current GM Mark Johnston, who has accepted a position in the Lower 48.

Anna Henderson has been with the Municipality since 2006 and at ML&P in various roles for more than 10 years. She currently serves as the manager for the Regulatory Affairs Division, where she is responsible for overseeing a $60 million annual operating budget and a $10-20 million annual capital budget. Henderson also has experience managing gas supply operations, leading negotiations in purchase and sales agreements, managing federal contracts and leading the development and approval of utility rates for ML&P. Henderson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Mark Johnston, who has served as the General Manager for ML&P since 2015, will leave the Utility on April 19.

ML&P, the city-owned electric utility, is under contract to be purchased by Chugach Electric Association. The final sale is expected to take place in late 2019, following the review of and approval by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska.
