Railbelt Utilities Sign Groundbreaking Agreement

All six Railbelt utilities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to move forward with an organization to work more closely together to manage Alaska’s largest interconnected grid. The signatory utilities include Anchorage Municipal Light and Power and Chugach Electric Association in Anchorage; Golden Valley Electric Association in Fairbanks; Homer Electric Association; Matanuska Electric Association in the Mat-Su Valley and Eagle River; and Seward Electric.

The area of responsibility for US Coast Guard Sector Anchorage is by far the largest and most remote of any Coast Guard sector in the nation. Captain Sean MacKenzie, sector commander, exercises authority in a jurisdiction extending throughout Western Alaska to the North Slope, and from the Aleutian Islands through Prince William Sound—an area that covers approximately 5.3 million square miles and more than 35,000 miles of shoreline.
