At Alaska Business, we are aware of many business and community events taking place around the state. So below we're happy to provide our readers with as much information as we can about statewide plays, festivals, fundraisers, workshops, lectures, debates, conferences, conventions, business meetings, and whatever else may pique our interest—or yours.
Because of public efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and following the guidance of national and local leaders, many events are cancelled, postponed, or revamped for online attendance; we are keeping this calendar updated as we are made aware of changes.

As efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 are ongoing, please follow the health and safety advice of local leaders, including wearing face coverings and practicing social distancing; be conscientious and prioritize your safety and the safety of others.

Alaska Association of Harbormasters and Port Administrators Annual Conference

September 26

Port of Nome

ANDREW KAZMIERSKI | DREAMSTIME

Every year, AAHPA members come together for our annual conference. Anyone who has been to a conference will attest—it’s good people, talking about important and good work. You will learn more than enough to cover the cost of attending through increased savings, efficiency, professional networks, and grant opportunities throughout the rest of the year. Our corporate members rotate the responsibility for hosting the conference. Past conference presentations (including the 2020 virtual conference) and all AAHPA awards are available to peruse at any time.

In addition to twelve regional corporations, the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) allocated lands and funds to more than 200 village corporations. As with their regional counterparts, the village corporations are mandated to make a profit and use it to benefit their shareholders and villages. It’s no surprise that, among hundreds of corporations, no two have chosen the exact same path to meet that mandate. Below are highlights and updates for a handful of the village and urban corporations.
