Beginning with a January 20 virtual conference for small and rural schools in which Anita Archer is keynote, the virtual portion of this conference will explore multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and the science of reading as practiced in multi-grade classrooms and small schools. Attendees will learn tools to address academic and behavioral challenges faced by rural educators that can be immediately applied in the classroom. On January 26 a preconference “Trauma-engaged MTSS Preconference” begins, with keynotes by Linda Chamberlain and Doug Modig. Alaskan experts in trauma-informed education will share research, evidence-based strategies, and practical techniques to help attendees understand and respond to students affected by trauma. The full MTSS Effective Instruction Conference on January 27 and 28 will have keynotes by John Hattie, Princess Lucaj, and Julie Stern. Attendees will explore strategies to enhance MTSS and effective instruction in schools. The conference aims to equip attendees with knowledge, strategies and resources to effectively meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students.
