TOTE Names New VP/GM for Alaska

May 6, 2022 | Right Moves, Transportation

TOTE Maritime Alaska has a new Vice President and General Manager. Art Dahlin is now responsible for the company’s Alaska-based operations, taking over for Alex Hofeling, who was promoted to president of TOTE Maritime Alaska last November.

In his new role, Dahlin oversees the execution of TOTE’s strategy and goals in the Alaska operations, as well as major initiatives such as the conversion of TOTE’s two ORCA-Class vessels to dual-fuel LNG technology and the Port of Alaska Modernization Project.

“I am honored and excited to join the TOTE Maritime Alaska Team,” Dahlin says. “I understand how important TOTE is to Alaska and look forward to contributing to the vital services TOTE provides to communities across the 49th State.”

Dahlin comes from TOTE’s sister company, Foss Maritime, where he served as general manager in Portland, Oregon since 2018. He brings fifteen years of experience in maritime project management, strategic leadership, and business development.

Dahlin holds a master of business administration degree from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington in Seattle. He earned a bachelor’s degree in logistics and intermodal transportation from the US Merchant Marine Academy in 2007. He sailed for Kirby Inland Marine as pilot and relief captain until he was hired in 2013 by Saltchuk Resources, the parent company of Foss and TOTE, as a senior financial analyst.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Art to the TOTE team,” says Hofeling. “His experience in the maritime industry will be instrumental in leading our Alaska operations and continuing our focus on providing excellence in service and safety to our customers and the communities we serve.”
