Salmonfest Reschedules for 2021

Salmonfest is deeply saddened and disappointed to announce that the 2020 festival will be rescheduled for August 6-8, 2021. As a festival built around fish, love, and music, we try our hardest to think about everyone involved, especially the residents of Alaska, when making decisions. We do not believe that it is possible to have the festival as usual and will continue to work hard to be able to bring you the best 10 year anniversary festival yest in 2021.

We apologize to the people of Ninilchik and our Salmonfest family including bands, vendors, staff, and volunteers for creating worries that the 2020 festival would proceed as normal. We try to take everyone’s thoughts and opinions into account but believe that the Ninilchik people are of the most concern and there has been enough serious concerns expressed that we must and do respect.

Communities outside of Alaska and the country that have opened are experiencing spikes in new cases or second waves. While there are encouraging factors such as our location and small numbers of positive cases, there are many other factors to consider. While restrictions are lifting, social distancing may be the last recommendation to be lifted. Unfortunately there are a lot of “ifs” to consider, which makes planning difficult.

We will be entering into discussion with our local health department about the possibility of a smaller scale gathering if changing circumstances allow for that.
