Senior Land Surveyor Returns to R&M Consultants

Jan 22, 2024 | Engineering, Right Moves

R&M Consultants

Gretchen Meyers is back at R&M Consultants as a Senior Land Surveyor in the firm’s Geomatics Department. Meyers was previously a member of the R&M team from 2010 to 2014, when she left the workplace to raise her children.

“Jumping back into a career after taking time off is not easy, but I knew R&M would have the guidance and mentorship I needed to find my footing again,” says Meyers. “The level of expertise in the Survey Department and willingness from coworkers to guide me has led me to thrive in a world I once knew very well.”

In her new position, Meyers produces surveying and mapping projects in accordance with current standards of practice in support of infrastructure projects. Since being back at R&M, Meyers has provided survey control diagrams, utility basemaps, and plats for airport, highway, and neighborhood improvement projects.

Meyers has a bachelor’s degree in geomatics from UAA. She is a professional land surveyor, licensed in Alaska, and a member of the Alaska Society of Professional Land Surveyors. Her experience covers road, airport, utility, military, and subdivision projects throughout Alaska, in both office and field engineering design surveys.

“Now that I have children, my days of working long hours out in the field have ended. There is a lot to learn about survey office work, and I have only just begun to dive into that,” Meyers says. “Luckily for me, R&M is a wealth of knowledge that I plan on fully taking advantage of. My goal as I head down this career path is simply to soak up as much as I can and to become proficient in all aspects of surveying.”

Away from work, Meyers can be found gardening, crafting, and spending time with her two girls.
