Alaska’s First Tesla Supercharger Opens in Soldotna

A new Tesla Supercharger offers faster recharge for electric vehicles, expanding the range for drivers to explore the Kenai Peninsula.
From Homer to Anchorage in 15 Minutes
The station is hosted by Addie Camp at Whistle Hill, just off the Sterling Highway outside of downtown Soldotna. The owners, Dr. Henry Krull and Mary Krull, already introduced the first Tesla Destination chargers in Soldotna. Those are designed to refill a vehicle battery overnight or during a day-long stay. The Supercharger is supposed to add 200 miles of range in fifteen minutes.
That’s plenty of juice to get to the end of the road in Homer, 85 miles away, or the 93 miles to Seward, or as far north as Palmer or Wasilla.
“With a growing population of electric vehicles, we are happy to be the first charging station available for local Tesla automobile owners and to any who may be headed our way in the future,” says Dr. Krull. He adds that he hopes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage the use of all-electric vehicles.
The project has been in the works for almost two years in conjunction with Homer Electric Association and Tesla, the vehicle maker that has also installed 30,000 Superchargers around the world.
The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting on April 30.
