SUMMARY:North x North Summit & Festival
DESCRIPTION:North x North Summit envisions a future North\nWe live in a place that is a gateway to the Arctic\, positioned at international borders and at the center of a Circumpolar North. Each year\, we celebrate our place and our region\, recognizing the distinct qualities of Northern places and people. May 1-5 the Anchorage Museum hosts the third-annual North x North Summit & Festival. We believe that convening entrepreneurs\, creative practitioners and the broader Anchorage community leads to compelling outcomes that help shape our futures. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Northern Food\, Films\, Music\, and More.\nFriday evening kicks off the Festival portion of North x North\, with exhibition openings\, talks\, performances\, discussions and films. Friday evening and Saturday include free admission to the museum\, encouraging all-ages community participation. We hope thousands will gather throughout\, to celebrate Alaska’s Arctic\, Anchorage as a leading Northern city\, and the long continuum of environmental adaptations and technological ingenuities\, first innovated by the Indigenous people of this land. \nOn Saturday\, North x North includes a wide-ranging set of all ages programs throughout the museum and extending to the museum’s new SEED Lab across the street at 6th Avenue and A Street. The SEED Lab puts creative practitioners and change agents in partnership with the community\, proposing solutions to challenges facing Northern places. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, SEED Lab will be the site for a Repair Workshop\, when anyone can bring their old t-shirts and posters\, tired rubber boots and broken pottery to give them new life with the help of other community members. Or\, adults and kids can get ready for spring biking and gardening through skill sharing and creative thinking. The Repair Workshop is about community helping community\, and re-using\, repairing and upcycling to extend the use and life of objects. \nOn Sunday\, North x North features a full day of Northern films in the museum’s atrium and auditorium. Together\, the five days of the event work to establish the North as a catalyst for positive change. \nFor details and full schedule\, visit nxnfestival.com. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Come Curious. Leave Inspired.\nThe first three days compose the Summit portions of North x North. May 1 is the second-annual Resilience Summit\, which will focus on Alaska’s distinct economy. Day two is the Arctic Research Day\, an opportunity for Anchorage researchers to share their scholarship. In the evening\, we are hosting a dinner we call Civil Discourse. As we celebrate the North\, we also celebrate the food that comes from our distinct environment. Award-winning\, James Beard Award-nominated chef Laura Cole\, who has recently taken the lead for Muse Restaurant at the museum\, will offer a meal made from fresh\, local ingredients. \nLaunch Alaska will host Friday’s program on Aftershocks\, Innovation and the Wheel of Misfortune. Entrepreneurs and interested community members will gather to think about how innovators respond to the shock of a natural disaster and how natural disasters spur technical innovations that can reduce the risk of future hazards. Participants play the Wheel of Misfortune and pit their creativity and wits against natural disasters to solve disruptions. Launch Alaska will also host its Demo Day on Friday\, featuring accelerator program participants and new companies thinking about energy innovation. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n North x North Summit envisions a future North\nWe live in a place that is a gateway to the Arctic\, positioned at international borders and at the center of a Circumpolar North.
