Dec 7, 2018 | Right Moves, Science

PORTAGE, AK—Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center welcomed Dr. Michelle Oakley as the newest addition to the Animal Care staff.

Dr. Oakley will perform veterinary duties including diagnosis, assisting in treatments, and researching medical conditions of AWCC’s resident animals.

Dr. Oakley joined AWCC with eighteen years’ experience as a veterinarian, having previously worked at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve and the Calgary Zoo. She has been the star of the popular reality TV show “Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet” and has been a visiting veterinarian at AWCC for several years.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Oakley joining our team,” Executive Director Dianna Whitney said. “Dr. Oakley brings a wealth of knowledge about Alaska wildlife and how we can best meet the medical needs of our animal residents.” Dr. Oakley begins working as a member of the AWCC team immediately. She will work closely with AWCC Curator Sarah Howard, as well as the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
